What is the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene?
The Feast of St. Mary Magdalene is celebrated on July 22nd. St. Mary Magdalene was devoted to Jesus, accompanying him through His ministry, from his last trip to Jerusalem, at the cross, and was the first to witness Him after his crucifixion. It was at the moment she saw Him, she believed. Mary Magdalene went on to spread this good news of Jesus' resurrection as His disciple.
Her story is one of redemption. Jesus cast out seven demons from Mary, restoring her sanity and mental state. Her redemption and life of devotion to Christ serves as a true example of Christ's love and power. Mary Magdalene is known as a saint. In 2016, Pope Francis raised the level of liturgical memory on July 22 from memorial to feast and for her to be referred to as the "Apostle of the apostles".
Mary, instill in me the same kind of loyal devotion that kept you close to Jesus. Help me to see him as a great teacher and to keep an open mind to his teachings, especially the ones that I find hard. Also, may I discover the courage to say to others, ‘I have seen the Lord,’ as you did on that first Easter morning.
