What is the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows?
The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows is celebrated on September 15. This feast day commemorates the Blessed Mother's relation to the sorrows in life. In Christian imagery, the Virgin Mary is depicted with tears with one or seven swords piercing her heart.

The Seven Sorrows
include:
1. The Prophecy of Simeon
2. The Flight into Egypt
3. The Loss of the Child Jesus
4. Mary meeting Jesus on the Via Dolorosa
5. The Crucifixion of Jesus
6. Jesus' Descent from the Cross
7. Burial of Jesus
The Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows follows that of the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This past weekend in Carroll Gardens Brooklyn, the congregation of Maria SS. Addolorata held an annual procession with a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows. The tradition started in the 1940s with Italian immigrants from Mola di Bari celebrating the Feast of their hometown patroness, Our Lady of Sorrows.
